Intealth Appoints New Executive Director Lyuba Konopasek
Intealth, a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing health care education and resources on a global scale, is bringing Lyuba Konopasek on board as executive director and vice president at the end of this June. Intealth’s two divisions, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), work together to provide reasonable and a wide breadth of services, which aim to progress and transform the educational training of medical professionals on a global scale.
Lyuba Konopasek, a pediatrician and MD based in New York, will take on the role of Intealth’s Senior Vice President and Executive Director of FAIMER on June 24, 2024. This announcement comes as no surprise, as Dr. Konopasek served many years as head of medical education at numerous schools of medicine. Before joining Intealth, Dr. Konopasek worked as Senior Associate Dean for Education at the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, overseeing graduate and undergraduate students of medicine. She also served as Director for Physician Engagement and Well-Being Programs and the Designated Institutional Office at the New York Presbyterian Hospital following her three-year term at the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
Through her studies at Brown University and the University of Chicago, Dr. Konopasek became devoted to transforming medical education with her innovative ideas and programs, making her a prime leader for a company like Intealth. Dr. Konopasek has international faculty development experience in China, Israel, Italy, Tanzania, and the United States, where she worked on establishing infrastructure and space for education and clinical care, enabling her to transition smoothly into FAIMER’s global groundwork. The global programs include the International FAIMER Institute (IFI) and numerous FAIMER Regional Institutes (FRIs) in developing regions in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Their purpose is to “provide professional development curricula in health professions education and leadership for international health professions faculty who have demonstrated the potential to play a key role in advancing health professions education for improving health at their institutions, within their countries, or around the globe.”
Similarly, the ECFMG division is “the sole J-1 visa sponsor of foreign national physicians in U.S. graduate medical education (GME),” and hosts professionals from over 150 countries.
Dr. Konopasek feels “energized by the prospect of helping in developing strategies to strengthen research in medical education.” Completing her residency in Pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Dr. Konopasek holds a well-rounded educational background that shaped her and her professional career.
