“Working for GPA was an experience I could never forget. I did meaningful work for the organization. I have written articles I am proud of, made connections that will last my career, and developed skills that are invaluable. I felt like a valued part of the team and I am so thankful for the experience.”

Key Dates

International Day of Monuments and Sites is celebrated annually all over the world on April 18th as a way to honor heritage, diversity, community, and the environment.

A community has taken root within the network of the 67 NHLs, with Global Philadelphia there to organize events, tours, SDG partnerships, and educational opportunities in our Learn Philly Heritage program. IDMS is a day for all of these NHLs to come together and acculturate the Philadelphia community.

World Heritage Week is a celebration of the World Heritage City Designation of Philadelphia. The last Thursday of May is set as World Heritage Day by City Council.

  • Juneteenth - June 19th

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States on June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger announced the end of slavery in Texas. GPA partners with community organizations to organize volunteer activities, attend cultural events and festivals, and celebrate Black/African American heritage.

  • Independence Day - July 4th

Global Philadelphia participates in a variety of community events and festivals that take place during Independence Day celebrations across the city.

GPA’s annual World Heritage City Celebration is a night to celebrate Philadelphia's WHC designation, revel in the year’s accomplishments, and honor an outstanding individual who has enriched the city and region.

  • City of Philadelphia Welcoming Week - Sept. 12th-21st

Welcoming Week honors the contributions of immigrant people and recognizes that our communities are stronger and more prosperous when we are welcoming. For over seven years, Philadelphia has shown its commitment to this national cause by coordinating events throughout the city.

The annual Globy Awards is an annual event that recognizes Philadelphians who make significant contributions to education, journalism, heritage, culture, commerce, and other areas.

Social networking events will be held in April, June,

and November. Join the YP newsletter for updates!
